Modern website design principles today dictate that a website has to function well first and foremost. A good looking website with poor functions like sign up forms that don’t work or pages that take forever to load will be of little use to a business and a customer.
Craigslist is a great example of function over feel. For over twenty five years, Craigslist has proven the point that people don’t care what a website looks like as long as they can get done what they need to do. Could Craigslist be prettier? Maybe but that doesn’t really matter when I look for a deal or want to place an ad. Craigslist is just about the easiest thing to use ever invented. Before a website is built a lot of intellectual curiosity needs to occur. Soliciting feedback from likely users and getting talented web designers on board are the building blocks to a great user experience. At the end of the day, the user experience has to be there and that is a function of building functionality and ease of use. Dramatic art or graphics have less of an impact on smaller mobile devices. It is clear that if a website doesn’t have a real value proposition, users will quickly leave. An ugly call to action button is better than no call to action button. Therefore, to settle the issue, function is more important that the look or feel. Click here to view this post where it was written originally by the author.
